GEARING UP TO 2019 MARINA PORTOROŽ MELGES 24 REGATTA
The countdown to the new season of Melges 24 European Sailing Series has kicked off with the opening of the online entry and publishing of the Notice of Race.
Crews will get their first Melges 24 fix in just over eight weeks time, with Act 1 taking place in Portorož, Slovenia from the 5-7 April. Always a firm favorite with the sailors due to accessible waterfront and reliable wind, Portorož will continue to build on the trend of the past six years that has seen a significant growth in entries from around the world, including USA and Russia. Over the last decade, the outreach of Marina Portorož Melges 24 Regatta has in fact exceeded all expectations and has become one of the events with highest Melges 24 participation in Europe.
What makes the event so appealing and keeps pulling people back are the amazing weather conditions in the bay of Piran along with the impeccable organisation offered by Yacht Club Marina Portorož.
“We are delighted to host the opening act and bring great entertainment for public spectators on our shores. For us this edition represents the start of building-up towards the Melges 24 European Championship that will be held here next year. I hope sailors will seize the opportunity to learn more about the 2020 Europeans venue and come to hone key skills here in record numbers," says event manager Branko Parunov.
In the coming days, the Local Organising Committee will move forward by finalizing full accommodation packages and expanding its offering to include Marina Residence prestigious apartments and Marina Lux floating sea houses, both located within walking distance to the venue.
The action is scheduled to get underway on Friday 5 April from 12:00 local time.
